Vacation Mode

On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. (Gen. 2:2 NLT)

On the seventh day, God rested. The beauty of His rest is that He finished the job, made sure that “it is good” and I guess He enjoyed His masterpiece like an artist who finished his painting, or a sculptor finally cleaning up the rough edges and saying, “it is good”. Then God rested.

God set some provisions in the ten commandments and one of his commands is keeping the Sabbath day holy. He instituted a day of rest, and also the year of Jubilee. That after seven years, one can redeem his freedom from the life of slavery.

God rested. God instituted a day of rest. God created provisions for man to honor the day of rest.

We celebrated Holy Week a few days ago with having malls closed, some families going to the beach, having a few days off in our country. Technically, we all need to take a break.

Our wirings and system refuse to rest. We have 24 hour hotlines and delivery services, fastfoods and we always look for instant gratifications and refuse to halt. We have our computers functioning that we can easily turn on the system by using “hibernate”, “sleep” and the likes. We keep ourselves awake with energy drinks, sugar packed stuff, coffee, and food that helps us not fall asleep.

God created rest, while man refused to rest. God designed us to take a break, and we ought to take it.

So take a break. God did.
