Worthy of the Call

This shirt reminds me of where God allowed me to finish my course. :)

This shirt reminds me of where God allowed me to finish my course. 🙂

…I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.
Ephesians 4:1
I think I still have not moved on from this verse. This one struck a nerve and I went back to read it again and again. The book of Ephesians told us repeatedly about what God has already done for us. Here are some of them…

Eph. 1:4 – God chose us for himself before the world began
Eph. 1:5 – He predestined us to be His children (heirs!)
Eph. 1:7 – Sent Christ to atone for our trespasses
Eph. 1:13 – Sealed us with His Holy Spirit to preserve us forever
Eph. 2:7 – promises to spend eternity showing us His grace
Eph. 3:10 – called us to do the work of missions as a church to display His wisdom
I had a green shirt printed with the school’s initials on it. The shirt has the words, ETCP, emblemed on it. I got the idea from seeing school colors like Ateneo’s blue shirt, La Salle’s green shirt and who could forget, UP’s maroon shirt. There’s a sense of pride as the students wear their school colors. More than a sense of pride, the student is actually telling the world, “I belong to this school”. A student wearing their school’s shirt would be careful to move because he knows that he is representing something bigger than himself. There it was. That was the idea that I had in mind. You see, what God did to us is more than just giving us a shirt to wear. It was something that is supposed to be tangible in us. In the same way, we as Christians are supposed to be careful to live our lives “worthy of the call we received”. The focus shifted from the self to God. That we are wearing something bigger than us. We are representing God himself. The question is no longer about the rules, but about the God we represent. He chose us, adopted us, redeemed us, sealed us, granted us grace, and called us. That in itself sets us higher than being in a prestigious school. Our identity is found on what God has done, and not in our enrollment into His kingdom. 🙂
Let us then wear God’s colors in such a way that we live a life worthy of our call. Let us walk in the area where God has placed us in a way that we honor Him by representing Him daily. 🙂
