Who may approach God?

Posted: September 4, 2014 in psalms
Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.
– Psalm 24:3-4

A lot of times, we come to church without checking our hearts, our thoughts, and we just want to get over the Sunday Service forgetting we are entering the presence of the Holy God.

A lot of times, we are clumsy in our offerings, getting spare change, or not even giving at all when it comes to God.

The psalmist reminds us that we ought to have clean hands, not in the manner of ceremonies, but that our service is not for our gain, but for God.

We come with a pure heart, or a clean conscience that we can approach God. But this isn’t on our own strength. God is the one who cleanses us.

We can approach God when there is no one else but Him. Nothing to boast but God. No idols. No false strengths.

So how do we apply this today?

Ask the question in every decision, “can I honor God in what I am about to do?”

Am I honoring God in my relationships, in my time, in my jokes, and even in my FB posts or twitter?
