Can anything good come out of the dump?

That question could be a rephrase of what Nathaniel asked Philip in John 1:46. It could simply be a logical question that yes…can anything good come out of Nazareth?

Nazareth was an obscure town, not really important since it’s rural, laid back and far from civilization. No kings came out of that hamlet. No prophet ever rose from the town. It was a small place where everyone knows each other and that it would seem insignificant that someone from that area would make waves.

What the provision kids have is something similar to the question thrown earlier. Can anything good come from the dumpsite?

They could sing. They were willing to come out and sing to their hearts’ content. They could give some choir group a challenge if they were placed side by side. They were kids who would be able to sing along to the tune, and they were enjoying it.

Their songs carry a message. They were speaking about their relationship with the Nazarene. Yes, that guy who is the King of kings. They sang about God giving them hope, of telling their friends about Jesus, of standing up for their King. The kids were effective in reaching out others through singing.

Lastly, they are kids. They didn’t have a training in Bible school, they don’t have the skills to run a business or at a legal age to go to work but they did what they can do to reach the world for Christ through their songs. They are a living proof that God can use anyone at anytime to share His love to this world.

So what does this mean for us?

We can take up the challenge of using our skills, our abilities and talents to reach out the world for Christ. We can volunteer our time not only in church but also in the youth group, or in the small groups. We can disciple one person to bring them to God.

We can support those who are in the front lines. Support the pastors, the missionaries, those who are doing the work in Sunday School. We can be “senders” as well. We can also support organizations like the kids. We can partner with missions team and help out.

We can also be challenged to be “goers”. Volunteer in missions, whether it be short term or long term. And we can start in our own backyard or homes.

So…is there anything good that can come from the dumpsite? Yes. God can use the small things to His glory. The question is, will you allow yourself to serve the King of kings?

  1. Alden says:
