God’s goodness

A friend who has a father going in and out of the hospital. A youth’s mother who is single and is almost sixty, struggling to keep a business alive and send her daughter to school. A student who is discouraged in her course. A disciple who is struggling with alcohol and is in a tumultuous relationship. A doctor who is unmarried and is taking care of her son. An executive who is in a relationship with a man who is engaged to be married. These things are some items in the mind of a young pastor. He also has some troubles of his own.

He is currently taking a break from preaching. He struggles with dealing with personal issues and has to remind himself of his calling. A storm is raging on but he soldiers on. Can we talk about the Lord’s goodness? Can we still say “God is good”?

I am confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living.
Psalm 27:13

The psalmist was confident of the goodness of the Lord. In spite of the situation he is going through, he was confident that God’s goodness will be seen while he is still alive. So let’s count our blessings, shall we?

Being alive is a blessing from God.
Being able to work is a blessing from God.
Being able to use our brain and study is a blessing from God.
Being able to sleep in my own bed is a blessing from God.
Being able to use technology is a blessing from God.

The goodness of the Lord is not limited to the good things. Even the bad things that happen comes from God’s goodness. It may be consequences or trials that He gave, but we know this…He is in control. He is the one who caused things to happen. Our confidence then should be in God. That no matter what happens in our lives, God is indeed…good.

So I am single right now, this is a blessing from God.
I am in pain, yet I can see the goodness of God through this.

What situation are you in? Can you see God’s goodness through it? Don’t let the pain, the worries, the bills, the sickness numb you to God’s goodness. He is good. He will show you His goodness while you are still alive.
