Luke 1:46-48 (NIV)
“And Mary said: ‘My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed…’”

This chapter talks about Mary and Elizabeth who were both pregnant with Jesus and John the Baptist, respectively. These conceptions were both miracles. Elizabeth, who had been married a long time was deemed barren, and Mary, who was a virgin, were both with child by God’s grace. I imagine the joy, as seen in Mary’s song above, in being able to serve God by being the womb that would carry our Lord and Savior – but also the fear and persecution that she will be enduring from that point onwards.

Mary’s faith and service to God is one of the many examples in the Bible that we should be following. She knew that she is just a humble servant, just like you and me, and not someone to be worshipped. Let us instead continue to keep our eyes focused on Jesus and His perfect example in how to live as His disciples – by magnifying Jesus through our lives.

This is a guest post from Marijim Dy. She serves as one of the youth leaders in TLCC and works in the Human Resource department in a company in Cebu City.
