On Church – hopping

Luke 9:49-50 NIV

“Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.” “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”

In my understanding, Jesus shows us in this passage that Christianity is not exclusive. In fact, He even says not to stop the other person from driving out demons in His Name. It is important to know here that the omnipotent God we worship can use and give power to any one willing to serve others in His Name.

I remember the issue on “church-hopping” and how a man-made concept can destroy instead of build up the body of Christ. Just because some people opt to physically go to another church does not mean that they are “not one of us” in spirit. I think there is no need to be worried as long as they still worship God and believe in Jesus as the Son of God and Lord and Savior. Sometimes, I fall into the trap of being too focused on the number of people who join the youth that I forget that mine and the youth’s relationship with Jesus is the most important thing I should focus on.
