Steadfast Love

Posted: October 9, 2014 in psalms

Your steadfast love, Oh Lord, extends to the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches through the clouds,
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God,
Your judgments are like the great deep,
Man and beast you save, Oh Lord.
Psalm 36:5-6

Another character of God that we see here is His steadfast love. His love that is unconditional and never changing. Man would love for a variety of reasons, the looks, the wealth, the fame, the joy that one person brings, the body, the conversations, but these things are temporary. We love when it benefits us. We love when people are nice to us when they feed us or give us something. Our love is conditional. Man would choose who to love.

It is different with God. His love is so vast that the psalmist would describe it as extending through the heavens. We are assured that God’s love is unlimited. It knows no bounds. It isn’t dependent on what we do or give to God. His love is steadfast, steady and unchanging. He is faithful to us no matter what our situation is. His faithfulness is not dependent on what we do or what we can provide for Him.

So what does it mean to us when we have God whose love is steadfast and faithful?

1. We can rest in His promises that He is faithful to fulfill it.
2. We can trust in Him regardless of our situation.
3. We can imitate His loving character and faithfulness because He shows it by example.

We can learn to love just as God loved us, like how Christ loved us. We can start loving the unlovable just as God loved us not because of what we dom but that’s because of who He is. We can be faithful to our friends, better halves, family because God demonstrates His faithfulness.

How can we show love and faithfulness today?
