Sinner at birth

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,  and in sin did my mother conceive me.  Psalm 51:5

Man is a sinner even before he was born. While in the womb, man is a sinner. No wonder we need a Savior. Does this mean I have an excuse to sin?

Let’s review some facts about man and his nature.

Man was created in the image of God (Gen. 1:27). The more we know God, the more we know ourselves. We are moral creatures, meaning, having the inborn sense of right and wrong. That is the reflection of God in us, as He has the perfect sense of right and wrong. We also are spiritual beings, as God is Spirit.

Sin distorts the image of God in us. Sin clouds our judgment, blurs our morality, muddies our thinking, and hinders our fellowship with others.

God is restoring the image through His Son. He works through the death and ressurection of Jesus so we would be conformed to His image (Rom. 8:29). He has given us a new nature which is ‘being renewed in knowledge of the image of the Creator’ (Col. 3:10). While here on earth, we are being transformed into Christ’ image from one glory of degree to another (2 Cor. 3:8).

Yes, we are sinners at birth but we are called to be Christ-like.

Yes, we are sinners at birth but it is not our excuse to sin.

Yes, we are sinners at birth but that isn’t the end of the story. God is redeeming us, shaping us to be like Him.
