Bone Crusher

Psalm 53:5

Psalm 53 is similar to Psalm 14. We have to remember that Psalm 14 is in book 1, while Psalm 53 is in book 2. Why is that important? It is because the theme of book 1 is about Beginnings, about creation, about the book of Genesis. Thus, book one would talk about the attributes of God in the idea of Genesis. Book 2 talks about God as the redeemer, the one who led the Israelites out of Egypt. The God who destroyed the Egyptians.

God, in this psalm, is a bone crusher. He would scatter the bones meant the wicked will be remembered no more. How about the men who killed in great numbers? Pol Pot? Hitler? Marcos?

One day, they will be forgotten.

So what lesson can we glean from this psalm?

Our God is a God of justice. He will not let evil triumph in the end. He is also our redeemer. He will save us from those who oppress us. He is a God who acts, He is not passive. We can cling on to that.

He will scatter the bones of those who en camps against you. It may not be immediately but keep in mind that He has won already. There’s going to be payday soon.

God, we are grateful that You are A God who acts on our behalf. We can rest on your word that justice will prevail. Thank You, Father. In Christ’s name we pray, amen.
