Things to thank God for

Posted: November 23, 2014 in thought to ponder, TLCC

There are a few things we take for granted as we grow in years. Some things we take in a stride because it’s just there. We are creatures who would want to get compliments, encouragements, or any form of positive responses but we ourselves are slow to give it to others. I think thanksgiving is a way to remind ourselves to look up to the Giver (God), and start appreciating the things we don’t pay attention to everyday.

Thank God for…

#1 Family
We have a family (whether blood relatives or our Spiritual family) which we don’t appreciate often. Sometimes, we take our siblings for granted, or our parents, and I remember my mother saying…

Don’t give flowers when I’m dead, give it while I’m living.

Take time to talk with your family. Turn off your phone and spend quality time with them. Be grateful for their presence, even if there are annoying times.

If you feel like you can’t relate to a sibling or a parent, remember that The Father (God) loves you that he lavished his love on us, that He called us children of His (1 John 3:1 – paraphrase mine).

#2 Friends
We have circle of friends. Whether we are introverts or extroverts, the number of friends isn’t the issue here. We have to take time to thank our friends who laughed with us when we make bloopers, who helped us through the rough times, who cried with us when we have love life issues, and practically stood with us even when we are cranky or having our own world.

When we are in Christ, we have a friend who we can relate to (John 15:15). He is a friend who loves at all times (Prov. 17:17). We can count on Him to be there when our human friends fail us. Take time to talk to your friends on earth and be grateful for their lives.
#3 Work
Instead of complaining about Mondays, thank God you have a job! ‘Nuff said. πŸ™‚
#4 Healing
Some of us may be in pain (physical, emotional, or mental). God is a God who heals…whether it be temporary healing or permanent. Consider your life and how many times have you escaped death. Think of it and be grateful that God heals. If you have wounds which have not healed yet, go to the Ultimate Physician, allow Him to heal you.

#5 Salvation
Whenever I think of what the finished work on the cross meant, I am in awe of the grace He gave me. Who are we that we are allowed salvation while angels don’t have the same privilege? Thank God for saving a sinner like me.

#6 Freedom
We take our freedom for granted. A lot of people in the world lose their head for the sake of Christ. Take time to thank God for freedom…and use it while we can.

#7 Grace
I could speak of the grace God gave me on and on. His mercies are new every morning. I cling on to that. I’m grateful for grace.

#8 Growth
If we are not growing, we’re probably dying. Check your growth, how were you six months ago, a year ago? Is there any changes in your life? Thank God for growth!
