When we don’t trust, we fear.

When I am afraid,
I will trust in you.
Psalm 56:3

When we don’t trust, we fear. It’s as simple as that.

We would fear what the future hold if we don’t trust God for what’s going to come. We would fear for provisions and we would hoard when we don’t trust that He will provide. We would fear for our lives and would be sleepless if we don’t trust that He would protect us. We would fear for growing old alone and go pursue and date aimlessly when we don’t trust that God is the one who would lead the right person for us. A lot of our actions is based on our relationship with God. If we trust Him or if we don’t.

Fear can cripple us, paralyze us, and make us do irrational things. Fear makes us rush for a decision we would regret later on. Fear is something that would make us divert from our call, our dTrustesign, and cripples our gifts and strengths. Fear saps our strength and makes us focus on something else instead of God.

The psalmist reminds us to put our attention to God when fear comes. That is, to trust in God in spite of what is in front of us. Trust that He is sovereign, that means He is above and in control of the situation. Trust that He is omniscient, that He knows what’s going on and what is happening. Trust that He is all-powerful, that He is someone who can turn things around no matter how impossible it is. When we learn to trust, that’s when we can let go.
