Conflict is inevitable

Who would have thought that Jesus would say this? Isn’t He the peace-loving, turn the other cheek guy? I struggle with this passage as I study. But here’s some thought on this verse.

#1 Jesus is saying that conflict is inevitable.

There will be a time when there will be conflict between good and evil, between light and darkness, the children of God versus the children of the devil (those who refuse Christ). There would be a time when we have to take a stand for Christ. We should strive to live in peace, as long as it is in our hands (Hebrews 12:14) but there would be a time when people would hate us because we are associated with Christ (John 15:18).

#2 Opposition from people we love is inevitable.

There would be a time when the truth is presented to the people we are close to, and they choose not to believe, they choose to mock us, or label us, to a point of persecution, whatever form, is coming our way. That is the truth in following Christ. There would be a time when we have to choose between following Christ versus our family.

Consider this a warning. There would be a time when we would be against our family because of Christ. We should choose to follow Christ.
