Weeds and Wheat

Read: Matthew 13:24-30

This parable sent shivers to my spine. Here are two things I learned on this parable…

#1 It is God who plants

The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field…

We should not brag or boast that we brought so-and-so to church, or say “that person is MY disciple” because it is God who plants. Our role is simply to be instruments, to share the gospel, to proclaim the good news. We are simply messengers.

#2 The enemy sowed weeds among the wheat

The enemy is capable of putting weeds among the wheat. In the same fashion in church, there are many who are “Weeds”, who grew up with the “wheats”, who looked like Christians, act like Christians, talk the language of Christians, but really are not.We ought to check ourselves. Are we weeds or wheats?

In the end, the weeds were doomed for destruction. May it sober us that not everyone in church is a Christian. May we also not boast on our efforts, but instead in gratefulness, tell others about the gospel. The harvest time is coming.
