Loving your neighbor

When Jesus replied to his critics regarding the greatest commandment, He also gave the second which is…Loving your neighbor as yourself. He got this from Leviticus 19:18 which states…

Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

It is impossible to love our neighbor apart from God. It’s even hard to “like” them.

Man is sinful. Man is depraved. How do you love such a creature?

In our generation today, we have social media that barely connects us to our next door neighbor. As one speaker from the camp said it, our neighbors are no longer the next-door neighbor. Out neighbors are the people we communicate with on a day to day basis.

So how do we love them?

Loving others begin by loving God.

When we understand who God is, we then see that He is gracious and compassionate (Psalm 145:8). Then our reaction towards fellow man should be the same.

God is slow to anger and abounding in love (Numbers 14:18). That means I should not be hot tempered and that love should be seen in my life.

My understanding of God determines how I treat others. By reading Scriptures, we get to know who God is, and that is how we would be treating others…specially to our neighbors.
