Same-Sex Marriage

Everyone has a voice nowadays. It seems that if you want to say something, all you need to do is post it in social media.

Take the issue of same-sex marriage, for example. This issue has been around for so long. It’s nothing new.

Nero, a Roman Emperor, married a man…twice. His idea wasn’t even original. Read Genesis 19. You know that homosexuality was an issue all the way from the time of Abraham.

The Netherlands made same-sex marriage legal in 2000. Followed by Belgium in 2003, then it snowballed to Canada and Spain (2005), South Africa (2006), Norway and Sweden(2009), Argentina, Iceland and Portugal (2010), Denmark (2012), France, New Zealand, England/Wales, Brazil and Uruguay (2013), Scotland and Luxembourg (2014), Ireland and Finland (2015), and now the United States. These are countries were same-sex marriage is legal.

While in the Philippines, our family code states:

laws relating to family rights and duties or to the status, condition, and legal capacity of persons are binding upon citizens of the Philippines even though living abroad

which means, same-sex marriage is not recognized here even if officiated outside the country.

Right now, we have people who are (a) pro, (b) against and then there are people who are (c) indifferent.

But instead of asking what people think, we should all get back to ask…

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE HAVE TO SAY IN LIGHT OF OUR CURRENT SITUATION?

You see, Jesus responded to cultural issues by going back to God. (read this blog post)

Instead of focusing on what people have to say, go back to God.

Check what He has to say on issues like this. Paul told the Ephesian church that…

“Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.” Ephesians 4:14 (NLT)

Go back to His word instead of letting social media make the decision for you. Go back to our call on discipling people instead of being a spectator in church. Wake up. Report to your commander-in-chief, God. After all, we are in a war.
