As of this writing, our national team, Gilas Pilipinas, has entered the final round in FIBA championship against China. (This is me praying that we would finally clinch an olympic berth on Basketball). They were finally working as a team, and this is the topic we would tackle on.

What do people say about Teamwork?

What does the Bible say about Teamwork?

Here is the principle…

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. (Ecc. 4:9)

A support system is necessary for us to survive. We were not meant to be lone rangers. We need a team because of our…

#1 Weaknesses

For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! (Ecc. 4:10)

Everyone has a weakness. No one is gifted with all talents. We would need a support system because there will be a day when we fall, and when that happens, leaders who are lone rangers have no one to pick them up. This should make us think of ourselves less. We are not indispensable.

Another reason for our need for a team is because of our…

#2 Vulnerabilities

Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? (Ecc. 9:11)

Even Superman joined the Justice League. There really is a moment when our vulnerabilities show up. Who would cover for us? We need a team to help protect us from our vulnerabilities.

We need a team because of our…

#3 Adversaries

And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken. (Ecc. 9:12)

We all have enemies. Instead of fighting among ourselves, we need to work together and fight the adversaries which are waiting for us to fail.

There really is no room for “I” in team. We need to find a team who can be our support system. I like what the Apostle Paul told the church in Thessalonica. He said…

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,

and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

1 Thessalonians 5:11-13

We are to encourage, to build up…as opposed to tearing each other down. We are to respect those who are below us, as well as those above us, even those who reprimand us. Show respect. We are to esteem everyone in our workplace highly. In love. And we are to be at peace among ourselves.

The Bible encourages us to work in a team. Be a team player. God is honored when we get the job done efficiently.
